Services Overview
HOME | CONTACT US | SITE MAP

These are the kinds of services SNaP provides for its members. A significant portion of these services are provided by a Volunteer network of your neighbors serving our community at no cost. The remainder are acquired from local Preferred Providers paid for by the requestor through pre-arranged agreements favorable to our members. Our Executive Director manages the implementation of these services.

Transportation

To the grocery store. To the gym. To the airport. To or from a garage that is working on your car. To the doctor's office, the Pharmacy, or the hair salon. To Summit Health in Chambersburg, Hershey Medical Center, or Johns Hopkins. If you need a way to get there, ...
... SNaP will arrange transportation for you—whether it's a one-time need or or one that is ongoing. In most cases we will pick you up, wait for you, and take you home. Although you may occasionally have to share a ride, your primary needs will always be met.

Transportation services will be provided by a neighborhood volunteer driving your vehicle or their own; or, when pre-arranged, by a local company. There may be a cost, depending on the volunteer or the paid provider and the distance traveled.

Home Maintenance

Do you need to hang a picture? Need to move a large piece of furniture? Need some heavy cleaning or lawn work done? Or perhaps some health-related changes to your home? For home maintenance tasks that you can't do yourself, ...
... SNaP can send a volunteer or arrange for the services of a Preferred Provider company to do the job. Electricians, carpenters, plumbers, heating and air conditioning engineers, appliance repairmen, painters, and many more—don't waste time poring over the Yellow Pages. Get a craftsman you can trust.

Preferred Providers are local vendors from many different areas of expertise, with a proven history of responsive, quality service at reasonable prices and a recommendation from at least one of your neighbors. SNaP has negotiated favorable rates for members from many of them, with discounts ranging from 10 to 20 percent of their usual fees.

Health Support

In any medical emergency, always call 911 first. But after the unexpected happens—a motor vehicle accident, a medical crisis, an injury—you will no longer need to impose on your neighbors, nor will they feel guilty when they cannot respond. One phone call to 352-2612 ...
... will mobilize the appropriate volunteer or in-home care provider to meet your need. SNaP's Health Support Services include:
  • Arranging in-home care at a reduced rate
  • Home safety inspection
  • Communication with distant family members
  • Assistance with personal needs
  • Ambulance service at a reduced fee
Other health services provided to SNaP members include:
  • Periodic health screening programs
  • Personal Lifeline Medical Alert System
  • Health-related seminars
  • Activities at fitness centers

Information

SNaP is continuing to build an extensive library of information that may be useful to our members. All of it is available under the "information" tab on our website, or upon request ...
... by a phone call or email to our Executive Director.
Our information resources include:
  • General information about SNaP services
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • A SNaP and community events calendar
  • A current Penn National area map
  • Member forums for specialized interests
  • Links to a selection of web sites of interest
  • A directory of local medical and clinical providers
There is also information about resources in the local area that can provide services beyond the scope of our support network—for example support groups, volunteer services, and government agencies.

Lifelong Learning

Would you like to stay mentally alert? Want to learn to play bridge or polish your bridge skills? Or pursue a new interest in another area? SNaP has joined ...
... with Penn State Mont Alto in bringing the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to the residents of Penn National. OLLI is a cooperative venture of teacher and student volunteers who offer courses, lectures, discussions and activities for the pure enjoyment of investigating a subject or pursuing a hobby. There are no prerequisites, required reading, or tests.

We are also developing a library of information about other learning and cultural opportunities offered throughout the area; and we will be providing seminars, lectures, trips, and other offerings free or at cost to SNaP members.

Social Support

Do you need an occasional visit, or perhaps a daily reassurance phone call? A member of our team of caring Neighborhood Contact volunteers will visit or call at the right time. If you need information, or help with some difficulty of the moment, ...
... he or she will be eager to help.

Do you just need to get out and socialize a bit with your neighbors? A Social Support volunteer will help you participate in the social events and special interest group activities sponsored by the Penn National Homeowners Association, and our Executive Director will be glad to supply information about local social events and special interest groups.

The "SNaPBacks" is a social group for widows and widowers that provides opportunities for members to share dining experiences, sporting events and other cultural activities. This group has been successfully operating at Penn National since the middle of 2007. You do not have to be a SNaP member to belong to SNaPBacks.

You don't have to be isolated. We can help.
